BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say officers responding to a call of shots fired found that bullets ripped through the bedroom of a 5-year-old girl in Brockton.

Police say it happened shortly after midnight Wednesday.

The girl's pink comforter was covered in drywall and dust from a bullet hole in the ceiling of her grandparents' West Harvard Street home. Her grandfather found a spent .40-caliber slug in one of her slippers under the bed.

The path of the bullets was traced from the girl's ceiling to a fence outside.

Police found 25 shell casings in the area.

Neither the 5-year-old girl, nor her 8-year-old sister who was also sleeping in the room, were harmed.
