NEW CONCORD, Ohio (AP) — A coroner says a newborn baby found dead on the campus of an eastern Ohio university last week was born alive and died from asphyxiation.
The Zanesville Times Recorder (http://ohne.ws/1J55jDh ) says the preliminary ruling came from the Muskingum County coroner on Monday.
The dead infant was found Wednesday night outside a university-owned house at the 3,000-student Muskingum University in the village of New Concord, about 70 miles east of Columbus.
Authorities have identified the mother as a student at the university. She was interviewed last week but hasn't been charged.
