NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — The Nampa Police Department is hoping city officials can squeeze into the budget a request for new patrol vehicles because some officers are having difficulty squeezing into the old cruisers.
Cpl. Steven Uriguen tells KBOI-TV (http://bit.ly/1zry61z) that larger officers are having a hard time getting into and out of the Ford sedans.
The driving compartment is cramped already and duty belts officers wear make it even more challenging.
Nampa Police Chief Craig Kingsbury says 20 of the vehicles in the 36-vehicle fleet will have more than 100,000 miles by November 2015.
The agency in southwest Idaho is hoping the city council approves buying six Ford Explorers at a cost of about $36,000 each.
Public hearings are planned before a final decision in August.
