WALNUT GROVE, Miss. (AP) — Fifteen participants are expected to graduate May 8 from the Eighth Judicial District Drug Court.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove Pentecost Church in Walnut Grove.
Madison County attorney Andy Taggart, whose son Brad committed suicide in 2012 after a yearlong struggle with drug addiction, will speak at the event.
About 170 people from Leake, Neshoba, Newton and Scott counties are enrolled in the program supervised by Circuit Judge Vernon Cotten.
Drug courts seek to rehabilitate drug-using offenders through drug treatment and intense supervision with frequent court appearances and random drug testing. They get the chance to remain out of jail and be employed and the sanction of a prison sentence if participants fail to remain drug-free and in compliance with all program requirements.
