SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say Sandpoint police officers have shot and killed a woman who was armed with a knife Bonner General Hospital. KHQ-TV reports that Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler says the woman had a confrontation with the two officers, and they opened fire, killing her. Her identity was not immediately released. Coeur d'Alene Police are assisting the investigation.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency says Idaho inmates were exposed to asbestos when they were sent to work at an Idaho Transportation Department maintenance shop without proper training or equipment. The Idaho Transportation Department has paid nearly $56,000 to settle the allegations.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A University of Idaho survey says most voters agree improving Idaho's transportation system should be a top priority but they don't want to pay for it. The survey comes after failed attempts by Gov. Butch Otter and lawmakers to increase revenues to pay for maintenance on the state's aging highways and bridges.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Former Idaho Democratic Gov. John Victor Evans Sr. has died. He was 89. Summers Funeral Home confirmed he died Tuesday morning at his home in Boise. Evans was elected lieutenant governor in 1974. In 1977, he became governor when Cecil Andrus was named U.S. Interior secretary under President Jimmy Carter.
