DETROIT (AP) — There's a dispute involving the Detroit Public Schools district about a staffing company's work to keep schools clean.

The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/1s28iT4 ) that Sodexo says it intends to stop performing work for the district because it's owed more than $18 million. The district, meanwhile, says the company isn't meeting the terms of its contract and isn't keeping schools clean.

Sodexo has filed a layoff notice with the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, saying more than 400 workers could be affected, including many custodial workers. The company has provided building maintenance and custodial services for the district since 2011.

The district says it told Sodexo last week that it intends to terminate its contract if Sodexo doesn't rectify performance deficiencies.

Sodexo and the district had a similar dispute in 2013.
