CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A class action lawsuit filed against Xerox and Nevada's health exchange alleges thousands of Nevadans may have paid for policies but remain uninsured because of ongoing problems with the online system. The lead plaintiff is Larry Basich, a Las Vegas retiree who bought a policy in October and paid premiums to the exchange that were never forwarded to his selected carrier. Basich's coverage was to take effect Jan. 1. He racked up more than $400,000 in medical bills.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sentencing was postponed to June 9 for a 22-year-old Las Vegas man facing up to 30 years in Nevada state prison for plotting the shooting of his stepfather to collect a life insurance policy. Michael Bessey's attorney sought time to respond to errors in a state presentencing report. Bessey pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy and attempted murder in the wounding of Robert Bessey in November 2012.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials have cited a Fallon oil refining company for three serious violations stemming from a December explosion that left one employee seriously burned. The action proposes Bango Refining pay nearly $21,000 in fines. Final determination is still in the administrative process.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The bulbs on the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign are going blue to shine a spotlight on autism. April is Autism Awareness Month. The color swap is part of the global "Light It Up Blue" initiative spearheaded by the group Autism Speaks.
