LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Tuition is going up at the nation's oldest state-supported military college.
Virginia Military Institute said in a statement Saturday that its Board of Visitors has approved a tuition increase of 4 percent for Virginia residents and 5.2 percent for out-of-state residents.
The school says that with the required fees, the total cost of attending the military college for Virginia residents will be $26,460. Non -Virginia residents will pay $50,769.
The increases are effective for the academic year beginning in August. VMI has enrollment of approximately 1,700 cadets.
The school says factors behind the increase in costs were salary increases for teaching faculty and employees, an increase in the employer contribution rate for health insurance and cost increases for utilities, insurance, maintenance and programs.
