LAS VEGAS (AP) — Casino giant Caesars Entertainment is appealing a bankruptcy court ruling that could put it on the hook for nearly $364 million. That's the amount a pension fund wants Caesars to pay in installments for 20 years after the company's largest subsidiary filed for bankruptcy protection in January. The National Retirement Fund wants to oust Caesars, forcing it to cover the remaining cost of promised pensions.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The amount of taxable sales in Nevada rose more than 5 percent in September compared with the same month a year ago, although state revenue collected from it is slightly less than expected. The Nevada Department of Taxation reports that there were $4.4 billion in taxable sales in Nevada in September. More than $344 million in taxes was collected off those sales, and about $88 million of that went to the state general fund.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two families in Nevada are suing a school district after they say their children were abused by a special education teacher. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the families have filed suit against the Washoe County School District, a teacher and a principal for abuse they say occurred at Marvin Picollo School.

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Patrick McCaw scored 20 points and UNLV hung on through the frantic final seconds for a 72-69 victory over No. 13 Indiana yesterday in the fifth-place game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Runnin' Rebels (5-1) bounced back from their opening loss to UCLA with wins over Chaminade and the Hoosiers (4-2), who leave Hawaii with just one win.
