CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Despite opposition, Carson City planning commissioners have approved a special use permit for a medical marijuana dispensary.
The commission's Wednesday night vote in favor of the permit sought by Nevada Organix came after objections were raised by Jeff Fuhrman of Carson City, who owns a landscaping supply firm named Nevada Organics.
The Nevada Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/1wyHsuk ) Fuhrman said confusion over the name similarity might cause him problems.
While the names are pronounced the same, the spelling of the second word is slightly different.
Bill Myer is CEO and president of Nevada Organix LLC, which will operate the medical marijuana shop. He says his company has approval from the state under the current name.
Community Development Director Lee Plemel says he understands Fuhrman's concern, but the secretary of state's office deals with business names.
