RIVERTON — A man who police say had drugs, an assault rifle and teenagers in his car was arrested for allegedly trying to recruit people into his gang.
Axel Creed Delaney, 18, was arrested about 1:15 a.m. Friday for investigation of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, recruiting a minor to join a criminal street gang, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug possession and possession of tobacco products by a minor.
Riverton police pulled over Delaney, who was driving a Mercedes C300, on a minor traffic violation.
“Upon contacting the driver, an AR-15 style rifle was observed sitting upright with the barrel on the passenger side floorboard and the grip and stock on the front passenger seat where a female passenger was seated,” according to a police affidavit.
A 16-year-old girl was in the passenger seat and a 14-year-old boy in the back seat. Officers had everyone get out of the car to move them away from the rifle, the affidavit states.
“Upon the suspect exiting the front driver side door, a large number of e-cigarette devices and packs of cigarettes were observed in the front driver side door and cup holders,” according to the affidavit. “A search of the vehicle produced numerous e-cigarette devices, multiple packs of cigarettes, a pipe, and a small amount of raw marijuana.”
Delaney admitted to being a gang member and said he sold marijuana “as a source of revenue for the gang,” the affidavit states, and also told police that he had recruited the boy in the car to be a member of his gang.
Police say Delaney also goes by “Swish Corona,” a stage name he uses for his music. Delaney has a YouTube and SoundCloud channels under Swish Corona. A picture associated with one of his songs is of an AR-15. Riverton police said Friday that based on the serial number, they believe it’s the same weapon officers seized Friday morning.
