SALT LAKE CITY — As state lawmakers begin their fourth week of the 2020 legislative session, medical marijuana will again be an issue.
With the rollout of the program using Utah-grown medicinal cannabis fast-approaching this spring, SB121 proposes several negotiated changes on how dosages are packaged and prescribed, as well as limits on doctors, among other things.
It goes before the Senate Health and Human Services Committee first thing Tuesday morning.
Other bills of note in committee:
• SB74 deals with family planning services funded through Medicaid and would provide low-income families with sexual health education and family planning counseling and other medical diagnosis, treatment, or preventative care routinely provided as part of a family planning service visit. It specifically notes that “family planning services do not include an abortion. It will be heard by the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.
• Members of the House Education Committee are looking at HB77, which establishes a limit on the amount of an increase to the value of the weighted-pupil unit used to distribute school funding.
• Members of the Senate Education Committee will take up HCR3, a concurrent resolution encouraging later start times for high schools. The resolution passed the House on Feb. 10 on a 51-20 vote.
