MIDVALE — Southbound I-15 lanes have reopened at 6800 South in Midvale after multiple crashes caused delays in the area, authorities say.

The Utah Department of Transportation reported the crash just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday. As of 10:30 a.m., the area was fully cleared, according to the KSL Traffic Center.

Traffic quickly slowed near 7200 South and a box truck rear-ended a flatbed semitruck, causing the box truck to overturn on its side and into another vehicle, UHP said. Three other cars were involved in the incident, the agency added.

A male driver, who was the only person in the box truck, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, the agency said. A second male driver of a separate vehicle was also transported to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition.

Traffic was briefly being diverted to I-215 after that crash, according to UDOT.

A second crash with injuries occurred on southbound I-15 at 4500 South, according to UHP. Eastbound and westbound lanes on I-215, as well as lanes on southbound I-15, were affected by that crash, the agency said.

UHP did not provide any further information about the circumstances of the second crash.

The second crash was blocking four lanes of southbound I-15 near 4000 South, according to UDOT, but was cleared as of 10:30 a.m.
