SANDY — Criminal charges have been filed against a Holladay man accused of inappropriately touching people — including a child — while at a public roller skating center.

Christopher Vaughn Roach, 48, is charged in 3rd District Court with sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, and sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.

On May 25, an 11-year-old girl was skating at the Classic Fun Center, 9151 S. 255 West, when Roach “grabbed her buttocks,” according to charging documents. The girl immediately told her mother who asked her to point the man out.

The mother recognized Roach because he had also “grabbed the left portion of her butt while she was walking by him,” the charges state.

The manager of the facility reviewed surveillance video that “verified the defendant acted intentionally,” according to the charges.

When confronted by employees, Roach said “that doesn’t sound like something I would do,” got in his car and left before police arrived, investigators wrote. Sandy police used the license plate to track down Roach.
