SANDY — Traffic was slowed at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon as Utah Department of Transportation crews were metering traffic, the agency announced Saturday on Twitter.

UDOT said the metering is designed to reduce uphill congestion and make the drive more efficient. It tweeted just before 9 a.m. that the metering was creating travel times of about 30 minutes from the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

UDOT tweeted earlier that it did not expect delays in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

"Thanks for your patience," it tweeted to Little Cottonwood travelers.

UDOT said the metering was estimated to be cleared by 10 a.m. Saturday.
