ST. GEORGE — A man who prompted a police response by allegedly telling his sister he had killed someone now faces criminal charges of making a false report.

Landon Todd Peterson, 57, of St. George, was charged Friday in 5th District Court with emergency reporting abuse, a third-degree felony.

On Jan. 15, a woman called 911 asking police for assistance.

“She told the responding officer that her brother Landon Peterson texted her saying he had killed his girlfriend,” according to charging documents.

St. George police initially could not locate the girlfriend, so a homicide investigation was launched, the charges state. But police were eventually able to find her “and it was determined that no one had been injured.”
