LAYTON — The Deseret Industries building in Layton, 930 West Hillfield Road, was evacuated Saturday after police received a call saying someone had accidentally donated dynamite.
Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said dispatch received a call just before 1 p.m. from a man saying his brother "inadvertently donated some dynamite."
The building was evacuated "out of an abundance of caution," Lyman said, and crews from the Layton Fire Department were called in to investigate.
Lyman said a bomb-sniffing dog from Hill Air Force Base and a bomb-sniffing dog belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which owns Deseret Industries stores, also searched the area.
At 5:30 p.m. Layton City tweeted that nothing suspicious was found.
Lyman said the man who reported the dynamite donation called from a cellphone and was somehow disconnected. Police have been unable to contact him to get additional information.
