WEST VALLEY CITY — New details have emerged on a police-involved shooting at West Valley City Hall Friday night.
According to a West Valley City Police news release, Chad Michael Breinholt was the man shot and killed by police in the DUI processing center Friday.
Officers had responded to a DUI call at a business in the area of 2900 South Redwood Road.
"The caller reported that Chad Michael Breinholt (31), the boyfriend of a fellow employee, was intoxicated and causing problems at the place of business," the statement reads. "Officers responded and contacted Mr. Breinholt in front of the business."
There was evidence that Breinholt had been driving under the influence. He was taken into custody and transported to the West Valley City Hall— where the DUI processing room is in the basement.

Police shot and killed a man in the DUI processing center in the basement of West Valley City Hall Friday night, police said."During the course of this processing, an altercation occurred and an officer fired his weapon, striking Mr. Breinholt," officials reported. "Medical assistance was called, however, Mr. Breinholt was deceased."
West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said multiple officers were present during the altercation, but only one fired a weapon.
This incident is still under investigation and body camera footage will be released following the "statutory timeline under GRAMA."
