UPDATE: Crews rescued a 21-year-old hiker late Tuesday who had become stranded near the summit of Mount Timpanogos, officials said. A Department of Public Safety helicopter retrieved the man and a 75-year-old man who was hiking with him around 11:40 p.m., according to a tweet from Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The pair of hikers were being evaluated, Cannon said.
MT. TIMPANOGOS — Utah County Search and Rescue teams responded to reports of a stranded hiker Tuesday night.
The 21-year-old man was sick and stranded near the summit of Mt. Timpanogos, Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
He said the hiker was experiencing nausea and dehydration, symptoms typically associated with altitude sickness. Cannon said the man’s condition is likely not life-threatening but noted things can worsen quickly — especially considering the hiker’s location.
The man was about 1,500 feet from the summit of the mountain, Cannon said.
Search and rescue teams were on their way to help the hiker.
The hiker started the trail alone but somewhere along the way met a 75-year-old man who joined him on the hike. The older man was staying with the sick hiker and made the initial call to authorities, Cannon said.
Authorities received a good GPS location of where the pair is at, Cannon added.
The sheriff’s office also contacted Utah Department of Public Safety to see if its helicopter could be used for assistance in the rescue, Cannon added. Cannon said it would take crew a few hours to reach the hiker.
