SALT LAKE CITY — Several construction projects begin this weekend, and the Utah Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead and expect long delays along I-15, I-80 and other roads along the Wasatch Front.

Westbound I-80 will only have one open lane from 1300 East to State Street seven nights a week beginning Saturday at 9 p.m., according to a UDOT news release. On weekends, the freeway will have two westbound lanes open during the day but all westbound lanes will stay open during the day Monday through Friday.

Also starting Saturday at 9 p.m. in Salt Lake are renovations on the 800 South bridge which will leave northbound I-15 with two lanes near the area until Monday at 5 a.m., according the release. The on-ramp from 1300 South to northbound I-15 will close during this time and drivers can expect delays of 30 minutes or more Sunday.

Those traveling solo can now enjoy traveling in the express lane because restrictions will be lifted for northbound I-15 near the area to help traffic flow while the lanes are closed.

Crews will be repairing and replacing concrete pavement on the bridge, according to the UDOT news release. The project ranked no. 10 in this year’s Top 10 UDOT construction projects and is scheduled to continue through early fall, the release stated.

Redwood Road in North Salt Lake will close over I-215 and I-215 will only have one lane open in each direction, from Saturday at 5 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.

During the closure, crews will work to convert the existing interchange into a diverging diamond interchange, the release stated.

The new interchange is designed to cut delays and help traffic flow; construction is slated to finish later this summer, according to UDOT.

Friday at 8 p.m. near Payson, southbound I-15 will have one lane open at exit 253, or the Benjamin/8000 South exit. Lanes will reopen Saturday at 6 a.m. but southbound I-15 will then reduce to two lanes until Wednesday at 6 a.m. so crews can work on bridge maintenance.

All construction schedules are subject to change and depend on weather. To stay up to date on construction-related traffic impacts, visit UDOT's traffic website or download the UDOT traffic app.
