SALT LAKE CITY — An endangered man who was last seen leaving a Utah Jazz game Monday night was located safe, police said Tuesday afternoon.
Salt Lake City police said Mickey Sargent, 71, was found with the help of Utah Transit Authority officials.
Someone riding TRAX alerted the light rail operator that a man on the train "seemed a bit disoriented," said Cindie Quintana, a spokeswoman for TURN Community Services, which is the assisted living center where Sargent lives.
The operator contacted a colleague, a bus driver, who took the man to a UTA police station.
"Mickey had been riding TRAX back and forth on the blue line multiple times trying to make it back home to Orem," Quintana said in a statement.
Murray police officers gave Sargent muffins and water, and kept him company until TURN staff could arrive, Quintana added.
She said Sargent is "predominantly nonverbal," which is why he was considered endangered.
Sargent had been last seen leaving Vivint Arena after the Utah Jazz game Monday night. He had wandered off from a group he was with at the game, officials said.
"We are so thankful to these courageous UTA workers, and the anonymous citizen who noticed that there was an individual in need," Quintana said. "These wonderful individuals took a break from their busy workday to lend a hand to an exceptional someone with special needs."
