EAGLE MOUNTAIN — Law enforcement officials have arrested two men in connection with a string of at least 17 car burglaries in Eagle Mountain.

John Landon Walker, 24, of Riverton, and Cody Bryon Jolley, 26, of Kearns, were arrested early Friday morning, according to arrest reports. They were booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of vehicle burglary, theft of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance, among other offenses, according to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s office.

Jolley also was booked on investigation of DUI, officials said. He had drugs in his system when he was arrested about 5:42 a.m. Friday, the news release states.

All of the cars that were burglarized were unlocked and were parked on the street or in a driveway, Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Lowe said. Authorities started getting reports of the burglaries, which took place on the north side of Eagle Mountain, on March 16, Lowe said.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, a Utah County Sheriff’s deputy found a vehicle driving in the area where the burglaries occurred that matched the description of a car thought to be involved, an arrest report states. Inside were Jolley and Walker, along with two women, authorities said.

Law enforcement officials arrested both men, who both then confessed to being involved in the burglaries and taking firearms and credit cards, according to the news release.

Walker, who was a passenger in the car, “stated he was involved in the vehicle burglaries and assisted the driver in stealing several items,” according to his arrest report.

During the traffic stop, Walker also began cleaning his glasses, “exposing drug paraphernalia in his possession,” according to the report. He then admitted to having more illegal items, the report states.

Deputies found small amounts of substances thought to be heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine in the car, according to the report. Also in the car were three financial transaction cards that had been reported stolen that did not belong to Jolley and Walker, the report states.

At least one of the cards was used to buy food and video gaming equipment, according to the news release.

Later, during an interview at the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Jolley again told deputies he was involved in the burglaries, according to the arrest report. He was able to describe some of the items that were reported stolen over the past few nights, the report states.

Jolley told deputies that he and Walker came up with the idea for the burglaries in order to get money for Walker and another woman, according to the report. Jolley said he knew that Walker and the woman were “struggling right now and he would do anything he could to help them out,” the report states.

Jolley told deputies that Walker took two guns from one car and a third gun from another car, the report states. However, Walker told investigators that Jolley took the guns, according to the arrest reports.

Jolley said he later sold two of the guns, a rifle and a pistol, for $240 to a Salt Lake County man named Oscar, who is a known drug dealer, according to the arrest report.

As of 3:15 p.m. Friday, deputies were still trying to locate the third firearm, according to the news release. Utah County Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at a Salt Lake County hotel on Friday afternoon, according to the release, but no details were released about what was found during that search.
