WEST VALLEY CITY — A 36-year-old woman has died after an apparent hit-and-run that took place early Sunday morning, police said.
Tequila Garcia was declared dead at the scene shortly after 2 a.m. outside the home where she lived near 2855 W. 3785 South, West Valley City police officials said in a tweet.
When police arrived to the area, they found a woman injured and lying in the street. It appeared she had been hit by a car, police said. Officials attempted to save the woman’s life, but the efforts were not successful.
Just before the hit-and-run, an argument was said to have taken place between Garcia and two people who live in the same house she lived in, police said.
About 8:40 a.m., the two people who police say were involved in the argument with Garcia had been taken into custody for questioning. They were later identified as Andres Mendoza, 24, and Alejandra Olivia Morales-Molina, 24, police said in a tweet.
Mendoza was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after interviews with investigators, for investigation of criminal homicide, domestic violence in the presence of a child, assault, and criminal mischief, police said. Morales-Molina was booked on investigation of criminal homicide.
Later Sunday morning, police found and seized two cars, West Valley Police Lt. Amy Mauer said. In one car, located away from where the hit-and-run occurred, investigators found evidence that caused them to believe it may have been involved in Garcia's death.
