SALT LAKE CITY — Police found and questioned a "person of interest" in a deadly Salt Lake stabbing, then served him a warrant and released him, officials said Friday.
Detectives were searching for Kidus Chane Yohannes, 31, after Candace Rose Samples, 20, was stabbed to death behind a dumpster near 477 N. 300 West during an argument between three people over a piece of property on Nov. 7, police said. Another man was also stabbed and critically injured.
Both Samples and the man who was critically injured were homeless, according to police.
Detectives said they wanted to speak to Yohannes, who was spotted on the University of Utah campus at the Marriott Library Wednesday about 11 a.m. Yohannes may have been armed and dangerous, police said.
Police said Yohannes had been found and questioned, according to a tweet Friday.

Though police did not have enough evidence to detain Yohannes "at this time" after questioning him, they served a warrant "on his person" to collect and test DNA from his body, said Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking.
Yohannes still remains a person of interest in the case, he added.
No further details about the interview or where he had been found were immediately given.
