ORDERVILLE, Kane County — A motorcycle crash on U.S. 89 resulted in the death of a man and a woman Saturday afternoon, officials report.

The crash occurred about 2 p.m. when a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle with two occupants rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma that was stopped to make a left turn onto Frost Lane, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials.

“For an unknown reason, the driver of the Harley Davidson did not slow quickly enough to avoid the Toyota truck,” the agency posted on its website.

The man and the woman were thrown from the bike and died from their injuries, UHP officials said.

Authorities later identified them as Charles G. Rau, 50, and Renee L. Chartier, 44. Both were from Kanab.

No occupants in the truck were hurt in the crash.

Officials originally reported two motorcycles were involved in the crash with the vehicle but later said it was one motorcycle with two riders.

The road was temporarily closed in both directions near Mount Carmel at milepost 83 as authorities cleared the scene.
