MAGNA — A 25-year-old woman is dead after police say she was shot through a window of a Magna home early Sunday morning.

Unified police say Paige Espinoza, of Murray, was found dead with a gunshot wound about 5:15 a.m. inside the home at 8360 W. Mix Ave. after police responded to a 911 call.

"What we're finding is that this is either a drive-by or a walk by-shooting," said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

Multiple shots were fired on the southeast basement window of the home, Lohrke said. No other homes in the area were hit.

"All the shots — multiple shots, we don't even have a count on that yet — went into that room where (Espinoza) was, and she was, of course, struck and killed," he said.

Three people who were inside the home when shots were fired have been detained for questioning, Lohrke said.

According to the early investigation, one of the individuals was in the same room as Espinoza, but he was not struck with gunfire, Lohrke said.

Espinoza did not live at the home where the shooting occurred, police said, adding that she was only visiting.

Some of the individuals inside the home, ranging from ages 36 to 45, "do have gang ties," Lohrke said.

"So we're looking at this as possibly gang-related, but (we're) not completely sure yet," he said. "That's going to be part of the investigation, and hopefully part of the path to developing suspect information."

No suspect had been identified Sunday morning, Lohrke said, but "I know detectives are working on a few close leads."

The incident is being investigated as a possible homicide.
