So who do Utahns think was the stronger debater, Biden or Palin? An exclusive Dan Jones Poll for KSL TV and the Deseret News gives insight into what our community thought of Thursday's debate.
Sarah Palin was the winner in Utahns' minds. Twenty million more people tuned in to the vice presidential debate than the presidential debate, but the end result was disappointing to some.
Tanya Hernandez said, "I was waiting for something really exciting to happen, and it was just so-so."
Matt Nelson said, "I thought she was going to sass him a little more."
In an exclusive Dan Jones Poll for KSL TV and the Deseret News, 49 percent felt Sarah Palin won the debate to Joe Biden's 28 percent. Reactions on the street were more even.
It seems many minds were made up before the first question was asked. Ninety-two percent of Utahns say the debate didn't change who they'll vote for. Hernandez said, "I think I'm still a Barack Obama supporter." Just 3 percent are more likely to vote for Obama, and 2 percent are more likely to vote McCain.
Pat Ross said, "I wasn't surprised. I wasn't expecting anyone to change my mind."
If the election were held today, Obama would take 28 percent; McCain would sweep Utah with 60 percent voter support.
Jim Low said, "I thought Joe Biden was pretty smooth. I liked Sarah Palin's personality a little better."
Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed ranked their interest in the election as very high. The majority, 63 percent, of those surveyed are republican; 20 said they are democrat.
