MURRAY — A serious accident temporarily closed northbound I-15 at 5300 South and injured two people Saturday.
A 35-year-old man was driving "too fast for conditions and lost control of his vehicle in the rain," around 11:10 a.m, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol. The man hydroplaned and crashed into the concrete barrier. This caused a chain reaction as the vehicles behind him attempted to avoid the crash, resulting in over 20 vehicles — including two semitrucks — becoming involved in a series of crashes.
The man suffered serious injuries and was transported to Intermountain Medical Center. A 60-year-old man involved in the crash lost consciousness and was also transported to IMC.
As of 2:27 p.m., traffic was moving freely northbound at the scene of the accident, with all lanes re-opened.
Police stressed that drivers "must slow down and keep a safe following distance when driving in adverse weather conditions ."
