FOUNTAIN GREEN, Sanpete County — Little Addie Fausett giggles every time she opens a Christmas card addressed to her — and over the past week, she and her sisters have opened a lot.

“We have gotten thousands of cards, and I feel it is amazing that so many people care to send a card,” said Tami Fausett, Addie's mother.

The cards have come from all over the world as people who’ve heard Addie’s story share some Christmas cheer with the 6-year-old. Her family put out the call for a "lifetime of Christmas cards" after doctors told them Addie had less than a year to live.

In addition to the cards Addie's received, there was one special delivery that didn’t come in the mail. Officers with the Pleasant Grove Police Department traveled to Fountain Green Saturday to share the love of their community with Addie.

“We donate every year to a charity, and I wanted to donate to this charity because it touched my heart,” Pleasant Grove police officer Nakell Humes said. “The story touched my heart and I wanted to help the family out.”

Humes and her fellow officers picked up cards and letters for Addie at local schools, and Pleasant Grove residents and businesses were also very generous, so much so they filled a trailer with cards and gifts for the girls.

I didn't know asking for a card would turn into all of this; it's amazing.

“We have amazing people helping us out,” said Pleasant Grove police officer Derek Clegg. “It has been amazing.”

Donations will also help one of Addie's dreams come true: a trip for her family to Sea World in San Diego.

Addie's mother said she is overwhelmed with gratitude.

“I really appreciate it,” Tami Fausett said. “I didn’t know asking for a card would turn into all of this; it’s amazing.”

Turns out that a little girl from a small town in Utah is helping the spirit of Christmas be felt around the world.

To donate, contact the Pleasant Grove Police Department at 801-785-3506 and ask for Officers Clegg or Humes.
