SALT LAKE CITY — Two restaurants and a shaved ice stand were temporarily closed for health code violations by the Salt Lake County Health Department.

The establishments were closed because they present an “imminent health hazard,” according to the department website. The Little World Restaurant, El Rey Del Pollo and Frigid Frog Shaved Ice may all reopen after the violations are corrected.

There were a total of 71 health code violations at Little Restaurant, a Chinese establishment located at 1356 S. State St. It was closed on Aug. 8. The violations included having food items stored at improper temperatures and dirty surfaces and appliances.

The inspector also noted finding noodles stored in a laundry basket and a skateboard being used to hold a wok. Bok choy was discovered with mold in the walk-in cooler.

There were 52 violations at the El Rey Del Pollo located at 1320 Swaner Rd., according to the health department. It was closed by inspectors on Aug. 6.

The violations included improperly managed chemicals and various food items, like tamales and meats, being stored at improper temperatures. Boxes of chicken were being stored on the floor and the dishes were not sanitized after cleaning, according to the inspector. A three-compartment sink was also repaired using a shoelace.

The Frigid Frog Shaved Ice stand at 1820 W. 9000 South was closed on Aug. 7 for six violations, including not having an adequate water tank capacity or water at the sinks.
