CLINTON — Investigators suspect two fires at a Clinton elementary school were intentionally set.

The fires began Monday afternoon at West Clinton Elementary School, located at 2826 W. 1800 North. When fire crews arrived, the main jungle gym on the playground was burning.

"We have some witnesses stating that there were some kids in the area," said Clinton City Fire Chief David Olsen.

He said crews extinguished the fire quickly.

Another fire just north of the playground was reported at about the same time. Investigators believe the two are connected.

"There was some video footage and we've got some good leads," Olsen said.

The fires caused about $75,000 in damage, Olsen said.

A tweet from the Clinton Fire Department asks anyone with information to call them at 801-614-0840.
