SALT LAKE CITY — "Dad" is a word former Wednesday’s Child Sophie wasn’t sure she would ever get to say.
She used to live in foster care and moved around a lot.
“It was so hard,” Sophie said. “(To have) a family that’s not your real parents and they’re just taking care of you.”
Now, fun days with her forever family happen all the time. We first introduced you to Sophie in a 2012 Wednesday's Child segment. She was a little girl anxious about the road ahead but hopeful her future family was watching.
“That would be really cool,” she said during the interview.
Sophie didn't know it then, but Bob and Cami LaForge were watching.
“Once we saw her video, we knew absolutely she was the one,” Bob LaForge said.
“We could just tell how sweet she was,” Cami LaForge added.
First, they arranged to meet Sophie.
“We were just anxious and excited,” Cami La Forge said.
As for Sophie, she said she liked the LaForges right away.
“Well, first of all, they’re baseball fans; and that’s a part I like about them,” she said.
Then Bob and Cami LaForge began the process of officially adopting Sophie. When all was said and done, Sophie didn’t just get a mom and dad; she’s growing close to her new brother and sister as well.
“We always describe it as, 'She’s made us all better versions of ourselves,'” Bob LaForge said.
Though it took a little extra time, the LaForge family is now complete.
“I’ve said to her many times, ‘You’ve been through a lot in life and I’m really sorry, but I’m so glad that it led you to be with us,’ ” Cami LaForge said.
