SOUTH SALT LAKE — Monday evening’s severe rainstorm caused landslides and also partially collapsed the roof of Dad’s Ice Cream.

The South Salt Lake Fire Department responded to the collapse at 143 W. 2260 South around 1 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Kent Robertson. The water had not properly drained off the roof during the storm and caused the weight on the roof to shift and pool in one area, Robertson said.

The weight of the water caused seven trusses to collapse, but they did not collapse into the building. Employees were able to shore up the roof to prevent further collapsing, Robertson said. The roof membrane was still intact Tuesday afternoon and Robertson said around 12 inches of water was pooled in the collapsed area of the roof.

KSL meteorologist Kevin Eubank said the storm brought one-half to three-quarters of an inch of rain in an hour period in South Salt Lake Monday evening.

Robertson said no one was injured during the partial collapse.
