SPRINGVILLE — A fire police say started when teens were playing with fireworks is 15 percent contained after burning about 140 acres, officials said Sunday.

The Spring Canyon Fire, which crews first responded to around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, continues to burn between Spring Canyon and Hobble Creek Canyon, and roads leading in and around the fire are closed, according to Kim Osborn, fire information officer for the U.S. Forest Service.

All residents have returned to their houses after at least 10 homes were evacuated and another 40 were put on standby for evacuation as the grass fire grew.

Three helicopters, four hand crews, one hotshot team and three fire engines are among the resources being used to fight the flames, Osborn said.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team, consisting of the U.S. Forest Service, the Forestry Fire and State Lands, the Bureau of Land Management, Utah County Fire and Unified Fire Authority, is managing the fire.
