SALT LAKE CITY — The spirit of the Olympics is back in Utah.

The Utah Olympic Park in Park City is hosting a Flying Ace All-Stars Freestyle Show with fireworks and Olympic festivities in the plaza on a special day dedicated to the athletic competition. It all starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Celebrations began Friday night at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns where attendees had the opportunity to try ice skating, curling and hockey.

Local coaches and Olympic athletes were on hand to help show people what their sports are all about.

"You'll have a great opportunity to at least try a sport and get interested and see if you want to come out and do it on a more regular basis," said Todd Porter, general manager of the Utah Olympic Oval.

Olympic Day was created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the Olympic Games. Part of the reason it was created was to get young people interested in the various events.
