HIDDEN SPLENDOR, Emery County — A father and son from Centerville are in good condition after spending an unplanned night in the wilderness.

According to a press release from the Emery County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a report of missing persons at 9 a.m. Friday. Officials said two men were dropped off at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to hike and raft Muddy Creek in Emery County. They did not arrive at the pickup location at the schedule time, and their family could not get in contact with them.

Personnel from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and State Parks, along with the Eagle Air helicopter, searched for the men.

The helicopter spotted the men, and they were transported out of the area on Friday. Officials said they were in good condition, though they had been unprepared to spend the night in the wild.

The men underestimated the distance of their planned route and time it would take to reach their location, according to officials.

The identities of the two individuals were not released.

“Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk would like to stress the importance of being prepared for unforeseen circumstances by packing adequate water, food and clothing,” the press release said. “Always make notification of where you are beginning your trip, your intended route of travel and when you are expected to return.”
