SOUTH SALT LAKE — A West Valley man wanted in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of a strip club has been arrested.

South Salt Lake police on Wednesday announced the arrest of Edgar Flores, 26, for investigation discharge of a firearm, aggravated kidnapping, heroin possession, drug possession with intent to distribute and other charges.

On April 30, a 27-year-old man was shot in the leg in the parking lot of Southern X-posure, 3420 S. State. The victim was taken to the hospital by a friend. The only description investigators had of the gunman was that he drove off in a black Ford F150 pickup truck.

On Tuesday, based on leads developed by detectives, Flores was arrested as he returned a rental car with his wife and 5 year-old child, said South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller. Keller did not say how investigators knew about the rental car, but noted they were watching the business and waiting for him to return.

Inside the vehicle, investigators found a loaded small caliber handgun, 1.4 grams of methamphetamine and 4 pounds of heroin, Keller said. The weapon seized was not the same one used in the shooting.

Detectives believe the shooting was over a debt, possibly one that was drug-related.

In July, Flores was charged in 3rd District Court with nine felonies in a separate incident, including aggravated assault and felony discharge of a firearm. He was accused of firing six rounds at a man and his 12-year-old son in the parking lot of Las Islitas restaurant, 3010 W. 3500 South, in December. No one was injured, but the shots narrowly missed several people. A trial for that case is scheduled to begin in September.

In 2013, Flores was convicted of DUI and failing to stop at the command of police. Flores — who had a blood-alcohol content of .21, more than twice the legal limit — ran away from officers who told him to stop and then he got into his car and drove off. He was later arrested at his house.
