TAYLORSVILLE — Charges have been filed against a West Jordan man in connection with the death of a 59-year-old Taylorsville woman last month.
Bryan Steve Quintanilla, 18, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary, all first-degree felonies; and unlawful use of a financial transaction card, a third-degree felony.
Police arrested Quintanilla on April 19 just hours before he was to board a plane to El Salvador.
The arrest came after Unified police officers were called to Margaret Steffey's home on a missing person report.
According to court documents, Steffey's body was found in the home. Her debit card was used from April 11-19 to withdraw more than $1,500. Surveillance videos of the transactions led detectives to arrest Quintanilla.
The charges state Quintanilla admitted to withdrawing crash from Steffey's account. His fingerprints also matched evidence at the scene.
When police searched Quintanilla's car, they found money, two more cards belonging to Steffey and airline tickets to El Salvador.
According to court documents, Steffey died from blunt force trauma, suffocation and strangulation.
