SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands of people across the state were without power for a time Sunday because of the weather. Several hundred were still in the dark late Sunday night.

High winds knocked out power to more thousands of customers in Carbon and San Juan counties, according the Rocky Mountain power estimates.

Most residents of Moab had power restored by 10 p.m. Another 600 Schofield residents were expected to have electricity by 11 p.m.

San Juan County residents living south of Blanding were also without power for much of the day. County emergency officials expected it will take several hours to fix the problem, so a shelter was set up at the Bluff Community Center for those who need heat or electricity for oxygen.

By 10 p.m., power had been restored to residents in Bluff and Mexican Hat. Residents of Montezuma Creek were not expected to have electricity until morning, county officials said, because of a downed power line.

Rocky Mountain Power also also reported in Stansbury Park, Lake Point and Erda in Tooele County. Power to those areas has been restored.

Customers still without electricity in any of the above areasare asked to report the problem by calling 1-877-508-5088.
