WEST VALLEY CITY — One man was critically injured after police say his roommate stabbed him Wednesday morning.

Officers received a call reporting a stabbing in an apartment near 4000 S. Redwood Road, just before 5 a.m. Two male roommates had gotten into a physical fight about who could live in the apartment, according to West Valley Police Sgt. Blair Barfuss.

"At some point, one produced a knife and stabbed his roommate," he said.

Police have identified the man who allegedly stabbed his roommate as 27-year-old Peter Gatoro.

Barfuss did not know where the roommate was stabbed. He was critically injured and taken to a local hospital for surgery.

Gatoro of the stabbing was taken to another hospital with minor injuries. He is behind bars on one count of attempted murder and obstruction of justice.

Investigators have secured the scene and are waiting for a search warrant to look for evidence, Barfuss said.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
