WHITEROCKS, Uintah County — Federal authorities want to talk to a Whiterocks man about a pair of shootings Monday on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation, one of which injured a teenage boy.
A 15-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the hand about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to FBI special agent Bill Facer.
The teen showed up at Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt while authorities were still investigating a "shots fired" call near St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Whiterocks, Uintah County Undersheriff John Laursen said.
About an hour later, multiple shots were fired again in the Whiterocks area, Facer said.
"No injuries were reported in the second shooting," he said.
Uintah County sheriff's deputies took part in the initial investigation until it was determined the incidents had taken place on Ute tribal land and involved enrolled tribal members. At that point, the FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs assumed responsibility for the case.
Federal investigators have released few details about the incidents, except to say the first shooting involved the occupants of a white Dodge Charger and a black Chevy Cobalt. The same Chevy Cobalt was apparently involved in the second shooting, as was a dark green or dark blue sport-utility vehicle, Facer said.
Agents are asking for the public's help in identifying the SUV and its occupants. They also want to talk to Richard Pargeets Jr. about the shooting, Facer said.
Pargeets 18, is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair. Anyone who knows where he is or has information about the SUV should call the FBI's Vernal field office at 435-789-2112 or their local police department.
