WEST HAVEN (Weber County) — A woman died Friday night in West Haven City after she was struck by a car while trying to round up two loose horses.

Lori P. Peterson, 53, was working with two neighbors to round up two loose horses near 2100 West and 1800 South in West Haven City, the Weber County Sheriff's Office reported.

When the horses ran across 1800 South, Peterson followed, and she was struck at about 5:37 p.m. by a Toyota Pasao that was traveling eastbound, according to police.

The responding deputy started CPR on Peterson who was unconscious. He reported that it appeared Peterson had a massive head injury.

Peterson was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The 55-year-old male driver of the Paseo was also taken to the hospital for treatment of possible shock and anxiety, police said.

The accident is still under investigation, but police do not believe the driver committed any traffic violations, nor do they believe that he was impaired. As part of normal procedure, police asked for a blood sample, which the driver gave voluntarily.

The horses were not harmed during the incident and were later rounded up by a neighbor.
