CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man accused of shooting and killing two people at his home has been ordered to stand trial on two counts of aggravated murder.

Thad Robertson, 54, was arrested at his home at 386 N. 400 West on Feb. 15 following the shooting death of Jeffery Hardy and the shooting of Diann Bailey, who died of her injuries Feb. 19.

Police were first called by Robertson's daughter in California who said her father had called her and "told her that he was suicidal and he had done something stupid and could not go to prison," charging documents state.

He also told his daughter that he had used a gun "as a scare tactic" and had shot at least one person and possibly two, the charges state.

Officers arrived at the home and arrested Robertson. Bailey and Hardy were found inside the home and Bailey was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray where she later died.

When Robertson was searched, an officer found a glass pipe and a silver container with what appeared to be methamphetamine inside. A preliminary urine test, however, was negative for the drug.

A gun was found next to Bailey, which Robertson allegedly said belonged to him. He later confessed to shooting both Hardy and Bailey, according to the charging documents.

Neighbors said Robertson and Bailey were dating. Bailey filed for a protective order against him claiming cohabitant abuse in 2007, according to Utah state court records. The case was dismissed at the woman's request a couple of weeks later.

In addition to the aggravated murder charges, Robertson was also ordered by 5th District Judge Michael Westfall to stand trial for possession or use of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.

An arraignment hearing in Robertson's case has been set for Dec. 17.
