TAYLORSVILLE — Utahns paused to reflect and remember the military and armed forces at numerous events across the state on Veteran's Day.
The Taylorsville City Hall displayed flags that represent each of Utah's military service members who have been killed in action since September 11, 2001. Each flag had a picture and plaque detailing their service.
"I just see the age on here and it's kind of sickening," said army veteran Geneva Kessler.
Kessler said that seeing the images of her fallen brothers and sisters was an emotional experience, and that she decided to honor them by attending as many Veteran's Day activities as possible.
"Thank you for being there for the man on your left and thank you for being there for the man on your right," Kessler said. "I'm sorry I wasn't there."
In Taylorsville, people lined the street with hands on hearts for Veteran's walking by. Mrs Larsen's third grade class left Vista Elementary to watch the parade.
"We wanted to teach our kids the importance of Veteran's Day," Larsen said.
Grand Marshall, Melvin Holly said days like Veteran's Day make him proud to be American.
"It's so much fun to see the support veterans have from people in this town," Holley said.
In Provo, 100 military service members and their families filled a packed auditorium at Timpview High School. For the fifth year in a row, students have worked with community leaders to organize the event recognizing it's local heroes.
"This is a great way to bring Veteran's Day to their level and see first hand the veterans who have affected their lives personally," said Timpview student government advisor Cassidy Baker.
"If there is ever something to bring us all together, it's this Veteran's Day," said Rep. Jim Matheson. "We should be thanking them for all the freedoms we enjoy."
A memorial garden has been set up at the Taylorsville City Hall and will remain there until Tuesday morning.
