KAYSVILLE — City officials are claiming that a website is improperly using the city's logo in an attempt to mislead voters.
Several Kaysville City residents have contacted the city saying they received robocalls from a man who identified himself as a "former city councilman, planning commissioner and governmental auditor" who is asking citizens to visit a website.
The website has the official Kaysville City logo at the top, giving the impression that the site is provided by or sponsored by Kaysville, but Mayor Steve Hiatt said that is not the case.
The city said in a press release they "have not authorized the use of its official city logo in any capacity."
Hiatt said that the wording on the website could mislead the public into thinking that the city supports Proposition 5, but the city said that it has not endorsed either side of the issue.
Officials said that the website fails to immediately identify the person responsible for the website, but they claim that through a records search the found domain owner is David Bybee, a known outspoken supporter of Proposition 5.
Hiatt plans to take swift legal action to protect the city against misrepresentation, but the weekend may delay his efforts.
