COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A bicyclist is in critical condition after he collided with a vehicle Tuesday morning.

Around 11 a.m., a bicyclist was riding north on Wasatch Boulevard when he collided with an eastbound vehicle in the intersection of Fort Union Boulevard.

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital in critical condition by medical helicopter. Police had not released his name early Tuesday afternoon.

Police were unsure of who was at fault, or who had the right of way at this point in the investigation. The female driver of the vehicle claimed she did not see the bicyclist in time to stop, Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Mark Askerlund said.

Askerlund said the police were still collecting witness statements. Northbound Wasatch Boulevard after the Fort Union intersection was closed while police conducted their investigation.

He also said that the accident was made more critical by the high speed limit of the roadway. The road does have bike lanes going both directions, he added.

More details will be posted as they become available.
