PAYSON — The angel Moroni was placed on top a spire of the new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Payson Thursday.
The temple in Payson will become the 15th in Utah, according to mormontemples.org. It will serve approximately 78,000 members of the church from 22 stakes living in an area that spans from Spanish Fork to Nephi. Members are currently commuting to temples in Provo and Manti for services.
Ground was broke for the temple on Oct. 8, 2011 after plans for the construction were announced in January of 2010, according to a press release. The property is described as having scenic views and easy freeway access.
There are currently 171 LDS temples in operation, under construction or announced.
