WEST JORDAN — A West Jordan home was left uninhabitable after being engulfed by a 2-alarm fire Saturday.
The West Jordan Fire Department said they received a report of a house fire at about 3:45 p.m.
"When the crews arrived they initially found a fire that was very large in size and growing pretty rapidly," said Battalion Chief Steve Holmes.
The blaze was threatening homes east of the main fire before it was put out, he said.
"When they went to the second alarm they were able to get on top of the fire really quickly and get it under control and put it out," Holmes said.
Two people were living in the home, which Holmes said is currently uninhabitable. Two animals were also evacuated safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A Syracuse family was also displaced after a fire heavily damaged their home Saturday.
Witnesses said the fire started at the back of the house near a barbecue grill.
The fire destroyed three levels of the home and the attic, firefighters said. Two people were in the home at the time but were able to get out safely.
"There's a lot that can be salvaged and obviously I think they will be able to rebuild and occupy their home again," said Syracuse Fire Department Chief Erick Froerer.
