SALT LAKE CITY — What was initially reported to police as an auto-pedestrian accident turned out to be a strange case of an apparent drug deal gone bad, but one that produced no arrestable crime.
According to South Salt Lake police Sgt. Matt Budd, police were called about a possible hit and run involving a female cyclist. When they arrived on scene just after 10 a.m., however, they found a much different story.
The woman who was assumed to be the victim of the hit and run apparently admitted to police that she had been chasing down a man who sold her fake heroin, according to police. Budd described her as "very forthcoming" about the situation.
Budd said the deal started downtown but when she found that the drugs were "not drugs," she followed the alleged dealer in her own vehicle to a 7-Eleven on 3300 South and 300 West. There, she hit the man's car with her car, Budd said.
Budd said she then began to "beat on" the man before he fled the scene, causing the woman to topple out of the man's vehicle. That led to the confusion about a possible auto-pedestrian accident. Budd was unsure where the information about a bicycle came in.
However, because the apparent drug dealer fled the scene, there was no victim of an assault. Police also found no drugs on the woman who said she chased the man down, so there was no evidence of any drug-related crimes.
The woman was released.
