SALT LAKE CITY -- This weekend the long wait is over for the Airport TRAX line. It officially opens on Sunday, with festivities on Saturday.
Businesses along North Temple are excited to finally see the line open. They want to get people off the trains and onto North Temple for the grand opening.
UTA knows construction has been difficult.
"Construction is never easy, so we have been working very strongly with a lot of the businesses along North Temple there," said spokesman Chad Saley.
He said this Saturday, people can ride the new line for free for a can of food. But there's much more.
"The businesses are involved right up to the opening with helping us decide what should we do. They said, 'Let's have a big party. Let's get people off the trains and onto North Temple,' " he said.

- Grand opening at 2 pm at North Temple Bridge Station, featuring Gov. Gary Herbert, members of Utah's congressional delegation and other local officials.

"We are having parties at each station location," he continued. "We'll have food, we'll have music, we'll have activities. We'll have a passport program. You can come get your UTA passport stamped. We are just trying to make it a fun, fun day."
The activities, music and food at each stop will come from places like Red Iguana, Diamond Lil's and Leatherby's.
The city invested $350 million in the area, which includes wider streets, wider sidewalks, new streetlights and crosswalks.
The new Airport TRAX line is expected to serve 4,600 riders a day. UTA expects that to reach 14,000 per day by 2030.
